Some time ago EA Sports’ Peter Moore wrote about the challenges of developing games for the PC platform.
He says, that piracy is one of the reasons why EA Sports isn’t releasing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, NCAA Football, Nascar and Madden 09 for PC anymore.
It’s only natural to ask, when will FIFA 09 be a console game only?
According to FIFA 09 producer Paul Hossack is FIFA 09 for PC safe.
Videogamer recently interviewed FIFA 09 producer Paul Hossack and he has a really good point.
In general a lot of what Peter’s talking about is about North American sports. So if you look at them, in North America when people play sports video games they play them on consoles and the trend has been to get more and more towards console as the platform of choice for sports gaming. For football, the real football, FIFA, you look at it and we actually have quite a healthy market for FIFA PC. If that wasn’t the case I don’t think I would have spent as much time and my team would have spent as many hours and investment on making the PC game that much better this year, putting in a lot of PC specific things. So there’s a distinct difference between football and the North American sports in terms of people’s outlook and people’s desire to play it on the PC. Germany, UK, a lot of the Eastern European markets, PC is a very important platform for them for playing games and playing FIFA.
Peter Moore also mentions that the business model have changed. A few year ago we didn’t mind sitting in front of the PC playing sports games, but now we want to lean back in the couch and enjoy sports games that way.
Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are very popular, especially in the US. So it’s only natural that popular American games like Madden, Nascar and NCCA Football becomes console games.
So what do you think? Did EA Sports do the right thing?
